The Deep North (Jan 3)

It's rushhour in Bowen

Tourist attractions are thin on the ground

The past hangs heavy in country towns

Still, old and new can coexist

Townsville is a little busier on the eye

But still the ghost-town of the tropics

The wildlife has been tamed, mostly

And the museum is worth a look

Especially for history nerds

Though it's a hobby with a touch of sadness

And harrowing for the participants

They're proud of their Cook in Townsville

And keep nice gardens

To give rest to the fallen

Magnetic Island beckons

Though swimming there isn't advised

In North Queensland, late-night shopping isn't even a concept
